Our expectations from Mr. President
First of all, I will like to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari for the well-deserved victory. As you prepare to start your second tenure, I hope you’ll have the time to go through what we expect from you.
When you get to kick-start your new tenure in office, we’ll like you to setup your cabinet within the shortest possible time. Unlike when you took 6 months to present some already familiar faces to us. This time around, the name ‘Baba Go Slow’ must not resurface again. When setting up your cabinet, it’s our desire to see you include youth that will bring their energy, and 21st century ideas to move your government.
The current progress on the provision of steady electricity should be sustained until the country can generate and distribute enough power for it populace. It will be in the best interest of the country if companies that lack the capacity to distribute generated electricity get their licences reviewed or revoked. On the issue of infrastructure, the present tempo needs to be increased. The whole country should be littered with infrastructural projects. Most especially the North that didn’t get much infrastructural input in your first term.
This issue of cabals that has plagued your first term in office is something that needs to be reviewed. Now that the masses have voted you en masse back to power and not the cabals, with votes cutting across ethnic, regional, and religious borders, we hope and pray that your second term won’t be over shadowed with accusations of a small group of people riding on the hard work of the masses for their selfish interests. We need to see signs indicating that you’re in full control.
In this next level that we are about to enter, the economy needs to be handled like a fragile item. Every step should be in the direction towards a vibrant economy. A clear policy roadmap must be put in place to guide investors. These policies must be consistent and robust to provide investors with the required confidence to operate efficiently. Job creation should be a top priority. The economy needs to be put in the right shape to provide as much jobs as needed.
The fight against corruption that has being the cardinal point of this administration should be all inclusive. Irrespective of political party affiliation, all accusations most be properly investigated and prosecuted. Government institutions should be strengthened to block loopholes. Transparency most be promoted at every level of government. Education and healthcare are two other areas that need massive investment in your second term in office because our educational system and health care institutions are In a state of near collapse.
Finally, this opportunity given to you to complete another four years in office indicates that Nigerians haven’t forgotten the 16 years misrule of the PDP and as such, Nigerians expect the president to fix the country and get it working again without constant blames and reminders. We pray and hope this next level comes with much needed progress and development that will place the nation high position on the global map. Amen
