- By Olusola ‘Jide

Bendel Insurance were yesterday held to a goalless draw by former champions, Enyimba in a rescheduled Match Day 10 fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League at the University of Benin Sports Complex.

The home side had their hands full, dealing with waves of attacks from the visitors who also have not been entirely spectacular this season.

The opening minutes of the game saw the Benin side unsettling the Aba side who had their goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali and the post coming to their rescue.

In the 55th minute, Enyimba had their first real chance of the game but for Insurance keeper, Amas who pulled a great save to keep the score lines at 0-0.

Efforts from both sides to nick a late win proved abortive as the game ended goalless.

In Gombe, a 90th goal from the spot ensured the home side secured a point against Akwa United in Pantami

Gombe United’s Musa Usman opened scoring in 26th minute in a game that saw both sides creating scoring chances.

In the 78th minute, Akwa substitute Emmanuel Charles headed into the net from a tight angle from Mfon Udoh’s corner kick for the equaliser.

The goal spurred the away side the more and were duly rewarded when Mfon Udoh who was a thorn in Gombe United’s flesh increased the tally to two.

However, the home side got the relief late on when Dennis Nya handled the ball in the box and the resultant penalty kick was converted by Musa Usman.

In the same vein, the rescheduled match Day 1 between Lobi Stars and Katsina United ended 1-1 at the Aper Aku stadium in Makurdi.

The home side who have been involved in continental matches fell to an early goal from Martins Usule in the 12th minute from a rebound that came off the cross bar.

But the reigning NPFL champions dug deep as substitute Stephen Michael was fouled in the box in the 67th minute for Kone Yaya step up and calmly dispatch the spot kick to level up for the hosts, and a point for the team.

In Sagamu, Remo Stars defeated Wikki Tourists 2-1 with goals coming from Lanre Runsewe in the 20th minute while Victor Mbaoma secured all three points in the 89th minute from the spot. Isa Gata scored the only goal for the away side.

In Kaduna, Kada City overcame Yobe Stars by 2 goals to 1 despite failing to convert a penalty in the first half. Kabiru Sanusi and Kabiru Sarki scored for the home side while Philip Auta was on the score sheet for the away side.
