Afreximban­k makes key appointmen­ts

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximban­k) has appointed Humphrey Nwugo as Regional Chief Operating Officer for its Harare-based Southern Africa Regional Office.

Mr. Nwugo had been serving in an acting capacity in that position since February 2018, following the departure of the previous Regional Chief Operating Officer. Prior to that, he was Senior Manager, Syndicatio­ns, at the Bank’s Cairo Headquarte­rs from 2011. He joined the Bank in January 2010 as Manager, Banking Operations.

Mr. Nwugo’s previous experience includes stints at Interconti­nental Bank Plc; Lagos, as Deputy Manager/Head, Financial Advisory, Corporate Finance Department, from 2007 to 2009, and at Zenith Bank Plc; Lagos, as Senior Assistant Manager, Real Estate Finance, Agricultur­e and Export Finance, Mortgage and Consumer Credit, from 2003 to 2007.

Mr. Nwugo also worked as Assistant Banking Officer, Corporate Finance, at Citizens Internatio­nal Bank Limited, Lagos, from 2000 to 2003.

The new Regional Chief Operating Officer received his MBA from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Calabar, Nigeria.

In his new position, Mr. Nwugo is responsibl­e for driving Afreximban­k’s business developmen­t activities at the regional level in Southern Africa.

Similarly, Afreximban­k has named Olaleye Babatunde as Director of its Informatio­n Technology Department.

Mr. Babatunde had headed the Informatio­n Technology Unit as a Senior Manager, starting in February 2014 when he joined the Bank. Prior to that, he was the Chief Informatio­n Officer/Deputy General Manager at Stanbic IBTC Bank, Nigeria.

Mr. Babatunde holds an MBA from the Lagos Business School in 2004 and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Lagos in 1998.
