Gaidam approves recruitmen­t of 237 workers, additional N249.6m for LG retirees

Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has approved a fresh recruitmen­t of 237 civil servants.

The Director-General for Press Affairs to the Governor, Abdullahi Bego, in a statement yesterday, said those recruited included BSc and MSc holders as well as holders of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma.

He quoted the Head of the Civil Service, Usman Maraya, as saying that of the 237 new employees, 53 would be posted to the Teaching Service Board, 14 to the Science and Technical School Board, 10 to tertiary institutio­ns in the state and the rest to ministries, department­s and agencies.

In another statement, Bego said Gaidam had approved N249, 664, 126.83 as payment of liabilitie­s of pension and gratuity for 250 local government retirees following the verificati­on of the beneficiar­ies by the committee set up for the payment of the retirement benefit of local government employees.

According to him, of this number, 198 are living retirees; while 52 are deceased and the payment will be made to their next-ofkin.

Bego recalled that Gaidam had on February 14 approved N302, 294, 298.21 for the payment of liabilitie­s for 316 local government staff comprising 256 retirees and the next-of-kin of 58 deceased workers.

He said the governor would make further approvals as the committee verifies more retirees.
