Man flees home after stabbing friend to death in Suleja

Residents of Rafin-Sanyi, a suburb of Suleja town in Niger state were thrown into mourning after one of the community members was stabbed to death, allegedly by his friend during a heated argument.

The suspect identified as Jibrin Zakari, a native of Auchi from Edo state, had since fled the area moments after the incident which took place around 10 pm on Saturday night, close to a beer parlour in the area.

It was gathered that the two friends both in their early40s, engaged in a heated argument over who was older.

Sources explained that the accused, picked up a bottle, broke it and stabbed the deceased severally on his stomach.

The village head of RafinSanyi, Malam Zakari Madaki, who gave the name of the late person as Dikko Busa, a native of the community, confirmed that the deceased had since been buried inside his family house.

He said the remains of the deceased were taken from the Suleja general hospital where he was rushed for medical attention.

City News learnt that the family house of the suspect was partly torched, allegedly by angry youths in the community when it was gathered that he had fled, while his father, who had handed over himself to the police in order to save his life, was later released, with a promise to present the son.

The Police Area Commander of Suleja, ACP Isa Rambo, who confirmed the incident, added that the matter was referred to the state CID command in Minna, for further investigat­ion.
