Another corpse found inside well in Plateau

The discovery of a corpse in a well Tuesday morning sparked another round of tension around Dutse Uku a boundary community between Muslims and Christians in Jos North Local government Area of Plateau State.

The Nigerian Army had last November found the corpse of its former Chief of Administration, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Idris Alkali (rtd.), who was said to have disappeared in controversial circumstances. His corpse was reportedly found by the army’s search and rescue operation in an abandoned well in a bush at Guchwet village, Shen District, Jos South Local Government Area.

Daily Trust gathered that the deceased, 25, was killed Monday night and dumped in the well. Upon the discovery of the corpse yesterday, tension had ensued around the city as youths began to mobilize to launch a reprisal before they were later dispersed by security operatives.

A witness who sells wine around Tina Junction said the deceased was the son of a private security man working with the Church of Christ in Nations in the area.

The spokesman of Operation Safe Haven, Major Adam Umar, said the discovery had caused tension and panic.

He said: “the entire area is being dominated by our men, the police have evacuated the corpse and normal activities have returned.”

Also, the spokesman of the state police command, Tyopev Terna, confirmed the evacuation of the corpse from the well and said investigation had begun.
