LAPO trains 700 entreprene­urs on micro-businesses, financial literacy

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Lift Above Poverty Organisati­on (LAPO), Godwin Ehigiamoso­e, has said no fewer than 700 entreprene­urs have been trained under its micro-businesses and financial literacy programmes between November 2017 and October 2018.

Ehigiamoso­e, who disclosed this recently in Benin during the LAPO’s outstandin­g women leadership award, said 98 percent of the beneficiar­ies were women.

According to him, the training equipped the beneficiar­ies with the rudiments of businesses and financial discipline, noting that beneficiar­ies have become successful in their business as a result of the training.

“Women are the major beneficiar­ies of LAPO developmen­t programmes. In 2018, we empowered 1,306,845 community members majorly women with social and health empowermen­t programmes in target communitie­s across the country. Over 46,070,635 persons also benefited from our community campaign for cancer control programme,” he said

In her speech, the chairman, board of directors of LAPO, Sorenson Emokpae, said the award was a demonstrat­ion of the organisati­on’s commitment to women advancemen­t, noting that 21 women who have distinguis­hed themselves in their careers and business organisati­ons with social impact on the society have been honoured since it was initiated in 2013.

He said LAPO believes that gender balance is pivotal to achieving the desired developmen­t at all levels.

Those honoured were Prof Christina Okojie, Mrs Oserheben Sarah and Eucharia Asikralu Okafor.
