Rivers guber poll: PDP wants Wike declared winner

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party has called on the Independen­t National Electoral Commission to declare Governor Nyesom Wike the winner of the March 9, 2019 governorsh­ip election in the state. The state chairman of the party, Bro. Felix Obuah, made the call at a news briefing in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

“We are not worried about what some people are saying; the truth is The founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation and chairman, Heirs Holdings and the United Bank for Africa, Tony Elumelu, has challenged African leaders to prioritise the future of the continent.

Elumelu made the call while giving the keynote address, entitled “The Leadership Needed to Catalyse Africa’s Transforma­tion,” at the inaugural Africa Now Conference held in Kampala, Uganda.

He said: “The leaders we need in Africa today are leaders who genuinely care about humanity. We need leaders who are driven by an ambition to leave society better than they met it. We need that with the results from the field, the incumbent governor should be declared governor-elect.

“The outcome of the governorsh­ip and state assembly elections of March 9, 2019 proved the love the good people of Rivers State have for our beloved party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“You showed unparallel­ed love for our party by voting all the way for Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and all our candidates for the National and State Houses of Assembly elections.” leaders who understand and care about creating a positive legacy. We need leaders who are genuinely committed and care about the future of Africa.

Commending President Museveni on the achievemen­ts of his country, Elumelu emphasised the need for public-private sector collaborat­ion to drive sustainabl­e developmen­t, encapsulat­ed in his economic philosophy, Africapita­lism.

“Leadership should not be about directing blame, leadership is not about absolving responsibi­lity. Leadership is the catalyst for positive change. We need to take collective responsibi­lity for our own future - as I have often said, no one is going to do it but ourselves whether we are in the public or private sectors, “he said.
