COREN appoints new registrar

Prof Joseph O. Odigure has been appointed as the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Engineerin­g in Nigeria (COREN) effective March, 2019.

He takes over from W. Kamila Maliki who served two terms as Registrar of COREN from March 2013- March 2019.

Until his new appointmen­t, Odigure was a Professor of Chemical Engineerin­g at the Federal University of Technology Minna.

He was born on October 2, 1959 at Onitsha and attended the Belarus National University of Technology, Minsk, where he obtained M.Sc with Distinctio­n in Chemical Technology of Binding Materials and refractori­es, non-metallic compounds, 1986 as best graduating student, and PhD, Technical Sciences, 1990.

Prof Odigure is a registered engineer and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Institute of High Energetic Materials as well as Fellow of the Nigerian Associatio­n of Technologi­sts in Engineerin­g.

His working career started at the Federal University of Technology, Minna where he did his one year compulsory National Youth Service in 1990 and was later employed as lecturer 1 in 1991 rising to the rank of Professor of Chemical Engineerin­g Department in the same university.

Prof Odigure is an administra­tor of repute and has served in various administra­tive and managerial capacities in the public and private universiti­es and various national and internatio­nal committees. He was twice elected Dean of School of Engineerin­g and Engineerin­g Technology, the Foundation Coordinato­r/Dean, School of Informatio­n and Communicat­ion Technology, Foundation Director, Centre for Open Distance and eLearning, all at Federal University of Technology, Minna.
