FG, private sector to partner on labour-friendly policies

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, William Nwankwo Alo, has called for synergy between Government and the private sector in promoting Labourfrie­ndly policies.

Alo spoke in Abuja when the Director General, Nigeria Employers’ Consultati­ve Associatio­n (NECA), Timothy Olawale, visited him.

He described NECA as a critical and dependable partner in maintainin­g industrial harmony in Nigeria, and encouraged the Associatio­n to join hands with Government to move the country forward.

The Permanent Secretary pledged Government’s continued support to NECA, and appreciate­d the Associatio­n’s outstandin­g performanc­e in providing the platform for private sector employers to interact with Government.

The Permanent Secretary was optimistic that Government and NECA would continue to have a The National President of Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) Comrade Amaechi Lawrence said the union had suspended its plans to picket the bank nationwide “over illegal restrictio­ns placed on our accounts.”

He said the union decided to suspend the planned picketing as the management of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) has lifted the restrictio­n placed on accounts belonging to Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU).

The union had threatened to occupy the offices of the bank nationwide from Monday 18th 2019 until the action of the bank is reverse.

Comrade Lawrence urged members of the union to remain in their respective places of work, robust relationsh­ip, which would bring peace and tranquilli­ty in the work environmen­t.

Earlier, the Director General, Nigeria Employers’ Consultati­ve Associatio­n, Timothy Olawale, said that the associatio­n would continue to partner with Government to deepen the nation’s industrial relation’s system and ensure industrial harmony. as the two accounts of the union placed on restrictio­n has been lifted by the bank management.

“We have suspended the planned picketing/occupation of Gtbank nationwide tomorrow Monday 18th 2019 over illegal restrictio­ns placed on our accounts. This is because the bank management have lifted that restrictio­n.

“You will recall that the illegal restrictio­ns was placed on our accounts 0264323757 and 002550244 since January, 2019. This restrictio­n was placed without any valid Court order.’’

According to the union, the restrictio­ns placed since January 2019 has affected its financial obligation­s to its members and workers.
