Pregnant woman, 2 kids killed in Anambra fire

Apregnant woman and her two children at Umuoffor village, Okija in Anambra State were burnt beyond recognitio­n Tuesday when fire gutted their residence.

The spokesman of the state police command, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed this in a statement yesterday.

He said the incident happened at about 7.30pm.

He said the fire burnt Mr. Maxwell Okeke’s pregnant wife, Nwazuru Okeke and two of his children, Chidi Ebube Okeke, two and Makuo Chukwu Okeke, one.

‘They were trapped in the inferno and burnt beyond recognitio­n‘, the PPRO said.

He said A group known as the PMB/PYO IS A GOAL has assured that it will hold President Muhammadu Buhari accountabl­e on his campaign promises.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja during a press conference, the group’s convener, Hon. Aliyu Shehu, said the way the group assured Buhari of its support to mobilise people for his re-election, it would ensure the president delivered on his promises to make Nigeria a better place.

He said the group was not created to remain a mediator between the government and the citizens. police detectives attached to Okija Division had visited the scene and the fire was put off with the help of local volunteers in the area.

Mohammed said the cause of the inferno was not yet known .

He said the Commission­er of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, had ordered a full scale investigat­ion into the incident.

Shehu said the president had done so well in all aspects and the group was convinced that he would do more in his second term in office.

He said the group would also be an instrument to ensuring that the citizens on their own part, support the government in making the country better.

He said “we shall commit to collaborat­ing with all major stakeholde­rs to ensure that we succeed in bringing governance closer to the grassroot through numerous initiative­s, not limiting to periodic townhall meetings, citizens-government interactio­n on TV/ Radiant other sponsored programmes.”
