- By David Ngobua & Olusola ‘Jide

Lobi Stars FC put aside their continental misadventure to defeat Rivers United 2-1 in a rescheduled Match Day 8 at the Aper Aku stadium in Makurdi.

Sikiru Alimi continued from where he stopped in the CAF Champions League by opening scoring in added time of the first half.

At the restart of the second half, Alimi scored his brace in the 51st minute.

However, Cletus Emotan’s freekick goal helped Rivers pull one back, but was not enough to earn the club a point against the Makurdi soccer lords.

Also yesterday, Kano Pillars thrashed Kada City FC of Kaduna 2-0 in a rescheduled match in the ongoing NPFL season played at Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna.

The victory was Kano Pillars first away win in three seasons.

Adamu Hassan put Kano Pillars FC ahead in 11 minutes of play after he received a well tailored pass from Rabi’u Ali before forward Nwagua Nyima completed the job in the 64th minute after he was put through on goal by veteran striker Gambo Mohammed.

Technical Adviser of Pillars Ibrahim Musa commended his players on the well deserved victory.

He said the victory will propel them in their future engagements.

“I want to commend my players for a job well done. It was a well deserved victory because it didn’t come to us on a platter of gold. This is our first away victory in three seasons and this makes it very special for us,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yobe Desert Stars’ hopes of staying in top flight football has continued to dwindle by the week following yet another 1-3 home loss in the rescheduled Match Day 3 to visiting Abia Warriors in the abridged Nigeria Professional Football League.

The visiting side started the routing in the 36th minute when Obi Samson opened scoring following Sunday Adetunji’s assist.

In the 53rd minute, the home side drew level after their player was fouled in the penalty area by Abia Warriors. The resultant spot kick was converted by Philip Auta.

However, this was short-lived as Daniel Uduak scored in his own net to put Warriors back in the lead in the 61st minute.

Samson secured all three points for the away side scoring his second goal of the day to condemn the home team to their seventh defeat of the season.

At the Muhammad Dikko Stadium, Katsina, the home side shared the spoils of war with MFM FC in another rescheduled Match Day 9.
