Assembly: PDP wants INEC to declare party’s candidate for Agaie winner
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Agaie local government area of Niger state has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the party’s candidate for the State House of Assembly election seat winner, Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi, as the winner of the just concluded poll.
Malam Yahaya of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had polled 18,026 votes while All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Umar Abdullahi scored 17,920.
However, the electoral umpire had declared the election for the area inconclusive and ordered a rerun.
A PDP stakeholder, Alhaji Abubakar Iman Ndeji at a news briefing yesterday in Minna said according to the results announced by the INEC Returning Officer, the PDP’s candidate won the election, adding that it was wrong for the Commission to have declared the poll inconclusive.
Alhaji Abubakar, warned that any attempt to upturn the already announced result may lead to serious crisis in the area because the people have spoken through their votes.
He accused INEC of complicity by opting for a rerun when the results were already made public.
He said the party would head for court to seek redress on the matter and called on the people of the area not to take law into their hands as the party would get justice through the court.
However, INEC has confirmed plans to conduct a re-run in two units of two different wards next Saturday.
The Commission’s Head of Information and Voters Education Mr Authur said one of the units slated for the rerun has a population of 800 voters adding that INEC did not contravened any electoral law in taking the decision
