NEWS IPAC warns Plateau group against heating the polity

- From Lami Sadiq, Jos

The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), in Plateau State has warned the Plateau Peace Movement International (PPMI) to desist from making unfounded utterances that are capable of causing unnecessary tension in the state.

IPAC, in a statement jointly signed by its Secretary, Hon. Abubakar Dogara and Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ali Ali, is responding to the call by PPMI on the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Plateau State, Malam Hussaini Halilu Pai to resign.

Benue-Plateau Chronicle reports that the group had also called for the cancellation of governorship results from Jos North, Shendam, Kanam, Qua’an Pan. Mikang and Langtang South due to what described as irregularities and vote buying.

However, IPAC yesterday stated that it was perplexed by the group’s allegations especially since results collated during the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections were submitted in the presence of all the stakeholders particularly all the political parties concerned.

It said PPMI’s allegations that fake security personnel using police identity tags and civil defence uniforms had disrupted the process of electioneering in certain locations were false and stressed that, “where a person impersonates security agents, the first line of action is to report such a person to the relevant security”.

While describing the allegations as weighty and capable of undermining national security,

it urged PPMI to produce concrete evidence that its allegations had been reported to relevant security agencies for necessary action otherwise it would be tagged as baseless and call on security agents to invite PPMI for a detailed explanation.

IPAC also called on all wellmeaning citizens of the state, particularly those affected by the cancellation of results in the 40 polling units, to come out and exercise their franchise on Saturday.
