Katsina State to get College of Agriculture
Katsina state House of Assembly is likely to get a College of Agriculture soon after a bill seeking for its creation was referred to the House Committee on Higher Education.
If the bill is passed the college is to be established in Daudawa, Faskari Local Government Area.
Arewa Trust reports that when established, the school will be the first state-owned higher institution to be established in the southern senatorial zone of the state.
The Deputy Speaker and member representing Faskari State Constituency Engr. Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki, in a private bill moved before the house, argued for the need for the institute in view of the great agricultural potentials of the zone and the state at large.
He said, the bill seeks to upgrade the Basic Vocational Agricultural Ttraining School in Daudawa to a diploma and related certificate awarding institution.
He said this would be done by expanding its horizon to meet the demanding need for higher institution in the zone and boost agricultural development across the state.
According to him, the establishment of such school will produce qualified agricultural scientists, researchers and extension workers as well as several other agricultural professionals
“At present the structures on ground can be expanded and upgraded to serve the institution. Already there are Principal’s residence some staff quarters and hostels amongst many other infrastructure, what we need is to upgrade them. I’m committed to ensuring this bill scales through giving its tremendous benefit especially as the country is moving away from oil dependent economy to other sectors like the agriculture which has great potentials,” he added.
