Christian Aid distributes relief materials to displaced persons in Kajuru

- From Mohammed Yaba, Kaduna

The Christian Aid on Saturday distributed relief materials to 4,100 Internally Displaced Persons in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The distribution of the materials took place at Maraban Kajuru on Saturday in partnership with African Centre For Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) with support from START Network.

The Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Ben Kure, appealed to residents of the Local Government to imbibe the culture of living in peace with one another.

He lamented that funds that would have been used in providing infrastructure are being channelled into security and provision of relief materials to internally displaced persons and victims of crises in the area.

The Executive Secretary, who was represented by Acting Director Relief and Disaster Management, Yau Abdullahi Mahmoud, thanked Christian Aid and partners for their gesture.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal for peaceful coexistence. Kaduna State government is spending much on security and relief items for conflicts, such money could be better invested into infrastructure like schools and roads.

“Few days ago there was an attack in Kajuru LGA, the victims left their homes and established camps within the area.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank Christian Aid on behalf of his Excellency, Governor Nasir el-Rufai for this noble gesture,” he said.

Items distributed included mats, buckets, washing detergent, sanitary pads, textile materials, children clothing, mosquito nets, bathing soap and others to each of the households affected.
