We’re recording success against kidnappers, bandits – IGP

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, says kidnappers and armed bandits in Zamfara State have been disorganis­ed and are running helter skelter.

Speaking yesterday during the launch of Operation Puff Adder in Gusau, the state capital, he said the police had recorded success, adding that with the launching of operation, they would consolidat­e on earlier gains by stamping out kidnappers and other criminals.

The IGP, who was represente­d

by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 10, Sokoto , Mustapha A Muhammad, said the launch of Exercise Harbin Kunama III by the military and the Puff Adder by the police had disorganis­ed the criminals in the state.

“I’m warning our foot soldiers to always abide by the rules of engagement and display a high sense of profession­alism. We will work together with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force so that they don’t make fatal mistakes, “he said.

The IGP called on royal fathers to convene the message to their respective domains and tasked them on intelligen­ce gathering and sharing.

The state Commission­er of Police, Celestine Okoye, said over 2,500 personnel would be deployed for the operation, warning the criminals that their days were numbered.

Governor Abdulaziz Yari, represente­d by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Abdullahi Muhammad Shinkafi, urged the security operatives to man major routes to reduce kidnapping­s.
