FG project execution to provide opportunities for economic recovery – Darlong

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Darlong said the execution of projects across the country by the present government is aimed at laying solid foundation to their quest for a virile and prosperous nation towards unfettered development.

The Minister stated this at the weekend at the commissioning and handing over of flood and erosion control projects executed by the Ecological Fund Office (EFO) in old Karu, Abuja.

He said the approval of the project is a testimony of President Mohammadu Buhari promise that no part of the country will suffer neglect irrespective of political consideration.

“At this critical moment of our nation building and economic recovery, there is no doubt that the project will provide window of opportunities for economic recovery,” he said.

He said the execution of projects across the country demonstrate the sincerity of purpose by the Buhari led administration towards entrenching justice, equity and fair play to all and sundry.

Having completed the projects, he said it will improve the living standard of the people and engender improved economic activities in the communities within the environment as well as reduce dangers to lives and properties associated with erosion and persistent flooding that had been experienced in time past.

Speaking, the Permanent Secretary of EFO Dr Habiba Lawal represented by a director in the office, Felix Okeke, said the project was initiated through request for urgent intervention to arrest the continuous erosion and flood menace and to check further environmental degradation, lost of lives and properties.

She said the project is expected to achieve dual purpose of enabling the host community to take over and exercise ownership over the project, to ensure its maintenance and sustainability.

“The resources which the federal government had committed to these projects must not be allowed to go to waste,” she said.
