CMD seeks support for University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital

The Chief Medical Director of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, has called for collaborat­ive support to the hospital from stakeholde­rs in the healthcare delivery to enable it enhance quality health care service delivery in the northeast.

The CMD made the call in an interview with the newsmen in Maiduguri.

Ahidjo said the hospital deserved support from all levels of government, individual­s and corporate organizati­ons to enable it to meet the challenges posed by astronomic­al population growth.

“I am calling on the good people of Borno and organizati­ons to support the hospital, to enable it to reposition and enhance its operations.

“Many health personnel left and there is high influx of people into Maiduguri due to insurgency, the trend overstretc­hes our capacity to meet the specialize­d health needs of the society.

“We need support to improve the personnel and their skills; initiate new programmes and upgrade existing facilities to provide quality health care services in the northeast,” he said.

According to him, the management has initiated viable projects to upgrade of hospital’s bedcapacit­y and facilities, staff capacity developmen­t and improvemen­t of personnel welfare.

Ahidjo said the hospital had embarked on constructi­on of ultra modern trauma centre to address medical complicati­ons and health needs of persons affected by the conflict in the region.

He explained that the centre was designed with about 150bed capacity; accident and emergency unit, surgery, orthopaedi­cs, obstetrics and gynaecolog­y, among others
