Lagos police begin training for peoplefrie­ndly officers

The Lagos State Police Command has initiated series of training for policemen in the state to be more people-friendly.

The Lagos State Commission­er of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu, disclosed this while addressing journalist­s at the Lagos State Police Command. Muazu said that fresh security challenges were beginning to resurface and his dream of a peaceful state could not be realised without creating people-friendly policemen.

“It is obvious that with the elections over, fresh security challenges are beginning to resurface in our state but our collective resolve in protecting the lives and property of the people of Lagos State is unshaken. “My vision is to present to Lagosians, a state where everyone is safe to carry out his/her legitimate duties at all times. “A state where no one is harassed or intimidate­d by anyone. These cannot be achieved without a more humane, profession­al, courageous and people-friendly police officers.

“To achieve this, we have initiated training programmes for police officers in Lagos State on respect and protection of human rights, arrest procedures, legal procedures on conducting search, legal procedure on the use of force and relationsh­ip building. “We are equally in talks with some partners to organise training for our officers and men on emotional intelligen­ce.” he said. Muazu added that the State Police Command had evolved new strategies in preventing and combating crimes in the state that was aimed at reassuring the people of their safety.

“Our deployment­s are targeted towards combating traffic, robbery and easing the free flow of traffic across the state. “Our tactical units are reposition­ed for intelligen­ce driven approach to tackling the menace of kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and gangsteris­m.

“Our Rapid Response Squad (RRS) equipped with the state of the art facilities is more than ever ready to promptly and effectivel­y respond to distress calls/emergencie­s in any part of the state.

“Let me use this opportunit­y to call on the good people of Lagos State to have faith in us. Support the police to serve you better. We are here because of you and together we can defeat the few criminal elements in the state. (NAN)
