The 2019 edition of African Nations Beach Volleyball Cup seniors for male and female players will serve off on Tuesday at the Jabi Lake Park in Abuja.

Nigeria’s men and women national teams and 21 other African nations will be participating in the championship which ends on April 28.

The championships which serve as African qualifiers for the World Beach Volleyball Championship was officially opened yesterday with the arrival of some of the participating nations and CAVB officials.

The president of Nigeria Volleyball Federation Engineer Musa Nimrod who doubles as president of Beach Volleyball expressed readiness of his federation to host the championship when he addressed a press conference yesterday in Abuja.

He said, “I want to assure the world that we are ready to host the 2019 Africa Nations Beach Volleyball Championships seniors for both men and women. Due to ‘force majure’ in Algeria who were to host the championships, three weeks ago, CAVB called on Nigeria to step in and host. So we are determined to host hitch-free championships.

“All logistics for the events have been put in place. We won’t let down CAVB who have reposed so much confidence in us,” he assured.

Nimrod further revealed that activities heralding the championships will commence today with a technical meeting while the games proper will serve off tomorrow (Tuesday).

“The matches will begin on Tuesady after tomorrow’s (today) technical meeting. The draws will be conducted at the technical meeting,” he said.

He also assured that Nigeria will not only host but win the championships.

“Our intention is to host and win. So we are putting in our best. Our national teams have been in camp and are ready to do Nigeria proud,” he disclosed.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s women Beach Volleyball team are the defending champions in the women’s category just as Egypt are the title holders in men’s category.
