Two men remanded for defiling minors in Lagos

Two men, aged 24 and 28, have been remanded for allegedly defiling two minors in Lagos.

One of them, Lateef OlaOsebika­n, was brought before an Ikorodu Magistrate Court, Lagos on Friday, for defiling an eight-year-old girl.

However, the magistrate, Chief Magistrate F.A. Azeez, who did not take the plea of Ola-Osebikan, ordered the police to duplicate the case and send it to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutio­ns, for advice.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 29 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutio­n counsel, Sgt. John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 19 at No. 16 Owolabi St, Oreta, Igbogbo, Ikorodu.

Also, 28-year-old Moses Okechukwu was brought before a Badagry Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos State for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

Okechukwu, whose address was not provided, faces a three-count charge of rape, sexual assault and trying to escape arrest, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP. Akpan Nkem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 15, at No. 2, Chukwuma Close, Jakande, Ajangbadi, Lagos.

Nkem said Okechukwu unlawfully had sexual intercours­e with the girl without her consent.

“The defendant forcefully penetrated the girl’s private part without her consent.

“He also assaulted one Chukwuemek­a Okereke while trying to escape arrest,’’ the prosecutor said.

Ikem said the offences contravene­d sections 168, 258 and 170 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The chief magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomiya, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The defendant was to be remanded in prison pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 28, for hearing. (NAN)
