Court to rule on Zakzaky’s bail application August 5
The Kaduna State High Court yesterday set August 5, 2019 for ruling on the bail application brought before it by the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Shiekh Ibrahim Zakzaky, to seek medical attention in India.
Zakzaky and his wife are standing trial over allegations of culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace, among other charges
Justice adjourned Darius Khobo the matter to August 5 to rule on the bail application.
Counsel to Zakzaky, Femi Falana (SAN) yesterday told the court that bullet pellets lodged in his client’s body in 2015 had resulted in lead poisoning.
Falana urged the court to grant the bail application for them to seek medical attention in India.
He added: “My client is not in court because his health is very bad and even during the last appearance, he could not climb the staircase to the courtroom that is why we applied that he be excused from appearance in court and it was granted.”
Counsel to the respondents and Kaduna State Director of Public Prosecution, Dari Bayero, said the adjournment was sequel to the argument put forth by the counsel to both parties on the application.
He said his team had examined the eight medical reports by both Nigerian and foreign doctors that accompanied the IMN leader’s application.
He argued that there were several medical facilities in the country that could handle the medical needs of Zakzaky and his wife.
