Justice ministry staff differ over Malami’s nomination

- By John Chuks Azu

Some staff of the Federal Ministry of Justice have expressed divergent views on the re-nomination of Abubakar Malami (SAN) as a minister.

Malami served as Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice in the first term of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The staff, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the workers of the ministry have different views about Malami’s style of administration.

“It’s 40:60 for those who want him and those who don’t want him back because of welfare issues,” one of the senior staff stated.

The staff hinted at a preference for another lawyer who served as one of the spokesmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign, who has also been nominated for the post.

But at the send forth of Malami, the

Permanent Secretary in the ministry and Solicitor General of the Federation, Dayo Apata, called for the re-appointment of Malami as AGF.

He extolled his qualities and his efforts in staff welfare, infrastructure and capacity of staff of the ministry, including the reforms that led to the recovery of millions of dollars to the Federal Government coffers.

Malami was born on April 17, 1967 and is from Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State. He attended Nassarawa Primary School, Birnin Kebbi and College of Arts and Arabic Studies.

He graduated from Usmanu Danfodiyo University in 1991, where he studied Law and was called to the Bar in 1992. He also obtained a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State.
