Cult group’s ‘chief priest’ nabbed in Ogun

A 28-year-old man, who the police described as the chief priest of a secret cult group, Eiye confratern­ity, has been arrested at Atan area of Ogun State.

The suspect, Folorunsho Damilare, aka Pastor, was picked by detectives from Zone 2, Police Command, comprising Lagos and Ogun states during a fracas between members of Eiye and Aiye in the area.

The suspect, referred to as pastor by his gang because of his proficienc­y in providing his gang with charms, had led his boys to war between the two rival gangs, police said.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 2, Shehu Lawal, while speaking on the incident, said informatio­n was received that some suspected hoodlums were terrorizin­g the residents of Olohunleke via Atan village of Ogun State.

He said based on the strength of the informatio­n, a team of operatives of Zone 2 was detailed to track down the suspects with specific instructio­n to arrest them before they carries out their threat.

“The team immediatel­y swung into action and moved to the above village for the arrest of the suspects. One Folorunsho Damilare ‘m’ aka Pastor was arrested while one cut to size locally made pistol was recovered from him.

“The suspect confessed that is a member of EIYE confratern­ity under investigat­ion. The suspect confessed to have used the gun along with other suspects at large to attack their rivalries during several battles of supremacy between his gang and their rivalries.

“Investigat­ion is in progress, while efforts are still on to arrest other suspects at large and recovery more arms and ammunition­s. The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigat­ion is concluded,” he said.
