I want lasting solution to water problem in Nasarawa - Gov

- From Ibraheem Hamza Muhammad, Lafia

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has said that provision of potable drinking water is a priority of his administration.

He made the statement when he commissioned a Task Force on Water Supply in Lafia, at the weekend.

He said: “During my campaign and in my inaugural speech, I promised to make water available to the people of Nasarawa State. Our people face untold hardship in search of water and we want an uninterrupted water supply.”

According to him, immediately he was swornin, he invited Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to address him on their activities to enable them to have a common means of moving the state to greater height collectively.

Governor Sule said after that, he saw the need to set up a committee to work hard to provide water to Nasarawa residents.

“We did not select members of the committee based on their regions, but based on their competence,” he stressed.

In his response, chairman of the committee, Barrister Abdulkarim Abdullahi Kana, a former commissioner for Water Resources and until recently the former Commissioner for Justice, said, “the time for action is now and no more time for talking. This team wants to put the state on the right path, as water is fundamental to human survival.”

Members of the committee are Engineer Idris Mohammed, Engineer Sani Salihu, Yakubu Adam, Engineer Simon Ibi, Engineer Umar Abdullahi Ago, General Manager of Nasarawa State Water Board and Engineer Ezekiel Audu.

The committee has two months to submit its report.
