- By Ojoma Akor

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has advised nursing graduates of foreign institutions to continue to develop themselves and make effective impact in the profession.

Registrar of the council, Alhaji

Faruk Umar Abubakar, gave the advice yesterday in Abuja during the induction ceremony of 205 graduates of nursing from foreign institutions who completed their adaptation programme to practice in the country.

The registrar advised the inductees to “Accept corrections, make necessary adjustments, improve your skills and avoid unnecessary mistakes so that you can grow into wellseasoned professional nurses.”

He said the inductees were graduates of Bachelor of Nursing Science programmes, from Egypt, Sudan, India, Philippines, Georgia, Ukarian, Uganda, Niger, Jordan, Gambia, Ghana, Malaysia, Cyprus, Turkey and United Arab Emirates.

He said: “These graduates participated in the six months vigorous and intensive adaptation programs at 11 universities in Nigeria. They have all successfully passed the professional examination that qualifies one to be registered and licensed to practice in Nigeria and globally.”

Head of Nursing Services,

Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs

Franca Okafor, advised the foreign trained nurses to further develop themselves saying they had a lot of responsibilities to their patients and clients.

She said without nurses the country would not achieve the goals set by the World Health Organisation ( WHO) and other international health bodies.

Chairman Committee of Registrars of Health Professions (CRHP) and registrar of the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim called on the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other regulatory bodies to allow many more health programmes saying it would be more economical if children schooled in the country.

Awards were presented to the best performing inductee for May 2019 professional examination of foreign trained nurses, Oluwasikemi Maryanne, and the best performing department for the professional examination, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
