Peace, 15 wins Chemistry contest, gets N1m prize

A 15 year student of Babcock University High School in Lagos, Aderibigbe Eniola Peace has emerged champion of the grand finale of year 2019 PZ Cussons Chemistry Challenge organised by Premier Toilet Soap.

Peace, an SS2 student came tops among the six finalists across the states. At the grand finale, the champion got N1 million, a trophy, a gold medal, a laptop and one year supply of premier toilet soap.

The first runner-up got N750,000, a silver medal, laptop and one year supply of premier toilet soap while the second runner-up went home with N500,000, a bronze medal, a laptop and one year supply of premier soap. The 4th, 5th and 6th place finalists also went home with consolatio­n prizes.

Chemistry teachers and Schools of the top three winners were also rewarded with cash prizes and supply of premier toilet soap.

The six finalists emerged out of over 13,000 students that registered for the challenge this year. While over 7,500 students competed in the first stage – online Computer Based Test (CBT) quiz, 600 candidates qualified for a controlled CBT. 13 candidates then qualified from each region to sit for a practical examinatio­n during the third phase.

In his remark, Chairman of the PZ Cusson Chemistry Challenge advisory board, Professor Oladele Osibanjo said the competitio­n was designed to promote the study of Chemistry among students while demonstrat­ing the relevance of Chemistry in the society through an open competitio­n amongst public and private secondary school students.

Group Brand Developmen­t and Activation Manager, PZ Cussons Nigeria, Charity Ilevbare-Adeniji said the overall objective is to continue to make the Challenge the number one platform for the support of Chemistry learning in schools.
