The Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Monday rewarded players and officials of the state owned Kano Pillars football club with $1,000 each following their Aiteo Cup victory over Niger Tornadoes.

The governor announced the donation when he received the team at the government house as prelude to the main award ceremony to be organised in no distant future.

While acknowledging the players impressive performance in the final of the Aiteo Cup, governor Ganduje assured them of his continued support and commitment.

He also promised to extend the same gesture to other sporting activities in the state.

The elated governor said “We are giving you this One Thousand Dollar ($1,000) to each and every player, with members of your technical committee. I think your number is forty (40). This is just one out of other gestures to come your way,” he declared.

He went further to explain that the cash donation of $40, 000 was different from what would come the way of the players at the Award Dinner Night.

In addition, Ganduje who was live at the Ahmadu Bello stadium Kaduna to cheer Pillars to victory recalled how the team was determined and focused during the penalty shootout.

“The first and second half was excellent but the match ended in shoot out. You were urged to concentrate and convert your kicks which you did.

“Your goalkeeper also did as he was instructed. In the end, we emerged victorious,” he stated.

The governor’s gesture to the players and their officials will no doubt motivate the team ahead of the CAF Champions clash with Ashante Kototo on Saturday in Kano.
