200 Kano youth trained on auto mechanics
Kano state government is training 50 females and 150 males on auto mechanics engineering at the Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Learning Centre (PLC) in Kaduna.
The training is part of the state government’s youth scheme aimed at addressing the increasing number of unemployed youth in the state.
The trainees are also being trained on Information Communication Technology, defensive driving skills and entrepreneurship skills to ensure that they are well equipped for life when they graduate.
The Director General of the centre, Mrs. Elizabeth Mordi said the GAMENT training which started in October 2016 has produced over 200 graduates and the present batch of 200 trainees will make it 417 in all.
She said very soon all the trainees will graduate as fulfilled and trained auto mechanics, auto mechatronics, auto panel beaters and welders and auto spray painters who will soon become entrepreneurs and employers of labour.
She said: “The trainees are on the payroll of Dangote Cement, Obajana, some are working with us in PLC, others have been employed by PAN Limited dealers and some have started off their own individual business.”
She noted that the centre has trained over 1,353 Nigerian youth in various trades.
The Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje said his administration is engaging youths in auto mechanics engineering to tackle youth unemployment.
“The state has the highest number of youth and if care is not taken, it will have the highest number of unemployed youth in the country,” he said.
