Ihedioha appoints Prof Uwaleke finance commission­er

Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha has appointed Professor Uche Uwaleke as the state’s Commission­er of Finance.

Uwaleke was until his appointmen­t, the Chief Economist/ Director of Research at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), on secondment from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

Uwaleke, who is Nigeria’s first Professor of Capital Market, will bring to the state finance ministry many years of solid experience in financial management.

He is the immediate past Head, Banking and Finance Department at the university.

Uwaleke, a Chartered Stockbroke­r (ACS), a Chartered Banker (ACIB), and a Chartered Accountant (FCA), is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACTI), Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ACMR), and a full member of the Nigerian Economic Society (MNES).

He holds a B.Sc. in Accounting, an M.Sc in Economics, and a Ph.D. in Finance, with over 20 years of lecturing engagement­s in reputable higher institutio­ns in the country.

Prior to joining Nasarawa State University as a pioneer member of staff in the faculty of Administra­tion, he had worked as an Investment Banker with Lombard Assets Management Limited, as Head of Research.

Uwaleke was also at onetime chief examiner for the Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Nigeria (ICAN) examinatio­n (Business and Finance paper), and an external examiner to the University of Jos, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He is Chairman of the Editorial Board of the ‘Nigerian Journal of Securities Markets’, a publicatio­n of the SEC as well as a reviewer for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s ‘Bullion’ publicatio­n.
