Team Nigeria warned against Mutiny, doping at All Africa Games
The Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development has warned board members of the various sports federations and technical directors to desist from instigating athletes against the government in Morocco.
This warning was handed down by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Olusade Adesola during the press briefing on Team Nigeria’s preparation and participation in the 12th All Africa Games in Morocco.
Adesola charged the officials on the need for greater cooperation in the Boards for the overall success of the Nigerian contingent.
“The situation in a few boards where members and their technical directors instigate athletes against government is not only disheartening but to say the least a betrayal of trust reposed in them. Please let’s work together for the success of Team Nigeria,” he urged.
He further warned the 308 athletes representing Nigeria at the Games to avoid doping while charging the various coaches and technical directors not to tempt the athletes into doping.
“We have done so much to draw attention of our athletes to the danger of doping.
“I want to thank the board and management of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Committee for staging for the 1st time in our preparation for multi-games event a broadbased athlete’s anti-doping education in all the camps as addition to other educational efforts.
“On the reactive side, much doping tests were undertaken for which we are still awaiting their outcome.
“It is our hope that none of the athletes tested will fail this check. Let me at this juncture charge our athletes to desist from doping infractions and our coaches and technical directors not to lure the athletes or encourage them to dope in the quest to win top medals, “he said.
