Flood sacks 300 families in 5 Bauchi LGs

Over 300 families have been rendered homeless by flood in Shira, Zaki, Bauchi, Gamawa and Alkaleri local government areas of Bauchi State.

The worst hit is the northern zone of Bauchi State, where people are currently taking refuge in a temporary camp set up by the government.

Over 100 homes were destroyed by flood in Dindima village in Alkaleri LG, just as many homes and bridge were destroyed in Liman Katagum in Bauchi LG.

Also, 200 houses and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by flood caused by a heavy downpour in

Disina District of Shira LG, while the same incident also washedup over 200 hundred farmlands and houses in Zaki and Gamawa LGs.

Director, Relief and Rescue State Emergency Management Agency, Kabiru Yusuf Kobi, said they are still compiling the list while some of the houses are still falling down. While assessing the flood situation which has continued to ravage communitie­s in Bauchi State, the state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, pledged to assist the victims of flood disaster in Disina district of Shira Local Government Area and other parts of the state.

The governor gave the assurance when he led top government officials on a sympathy visit to the District Head of Disina, Alhaji Abdullahi Mustapha Disina, and District Head of Zaki Alhaji Usman Mahmood in their palaces over the weekend.

Governor Bala, was represente­d by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Y Suleiman, who is Acting on his behalf since he traveled for the 2019 Hajj, sympathize­d with the victims and advised them to take precaution­s by ensuring that water ways were not blocked.

The member representi­ng Disina Constituen­cy at the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Saleh Hodi Disina, also expressed gratitude to the governor for his quick response less than 24 hours of the incident.
