Police parade 44 for kidnapping, robbery in Plateau

The Plateau State Police command, on Thursday, paraded 44 suspects for various offences including kidnapping, armed robbery and homicide across the state.

Parading the suspects, the Commission­er of Police, Isaac Akinmoyede said the command carried out a coordinate­d and sweeping raid last month that led to the arrest of 11 kidnappers terrorizin­g Jos South, Bassa, Barkin Ladi and Mangu local government areas of the state.

He identified the suspects as Bashiru Mohammed, Umar Adamu, Yusuf Adamu, Mustapha Mohammed, Shaibu Ado, Dantani Umar, Samaila Saranu Shitu, Adamu Mohammed, Hashimu Ya'u, Jibiro Damuna and Abubakar Hassan.

CP Akinmoyede said two of the suspects had during interrogat­ion confessed to have kidnapped a lot of persons and were responsibl­e for the kidnap at Plateau State Polytechni­c staff quarters, Heipang in February as well as in Zawan and other places in Jos South.

The police also paraded David Mang, Emmanuel Kwadiri and Gaius Jonathan; security men attached to Jos abattoir who allegedly beat one Danshak Gobok to a state of coma and abandoned him to die.

The CP said with the assistance of vigilante groups, the command had in the last two weeks arrested five highway armed-robbery suspects who specialise­d in robbing commuters along Jos/Jengre highway.

“Following reports on the cult related activities and armed robbery around Old Airport Junction, the command embarked on profiling based on victims’ descriptio­ns which suits one Opara Chinonso.

"On Saturday 03/08/2019 at about 1530hrs, detectives of the command trailed and arrested him. On searching him one locally-made pistol was recovered on his person.

"He will be charged to court as soon as investigat­ion is over,” the CP stated.
