NASU, SSANU commence five-day warning strike today
The Joint Action Committee of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) have directed their members to embark a five-day warning strike.
This decision was taken on Friday following the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum given to the Government and its failure to show commitment towards issues bordering on payment of earned allowances, university staff schools matter and renegotiation of the 2009 agreements of its members.
The Joint Action Committee disclosed this in a statement which was jointly signed by the NASU General Secretary Comrade Peters Adeyemi, and SSANU president comrade Samson Ugwoke on Friday in Abuja commencing from 19th to 23rd of August 2019.
The Five-day warning strike therefore is to compel the government to address the issues of its members on payment of earned allowances, university staff schools matter and renegotiation of the 2009, while the two unions have directed its workers to retrain from duty post until further notice.
“Be informed that that the strike is total and comprehensive for five days. No form of cohesion or internal arrangement should be made with managements while all members must be directed to stay away from their duty posts.” The statement said.
The National Executive Council of the two Unions also reiterated that branches that default in compliance shall be sanctioned accordingly stating that all branches should mobilize its members to ensure full action.
