Club owners to hold crucial meeting with LMC
Clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, are set for a crucial meeting League Management Company, LMC, on Monday said the chairman of Club Owners Association, Barrister Isaac Danladi.
He told Daily Trust yesterday that the club owners will meet with league organisers to fashion out ways to start the league.
Three months after the conclusion of last season’s abridged league, the 2019/2020 NPFL season is yet to commence.
“We have not made so much noise but as club owners, we understand what the LMC is passing through and the efforts being made for the league to commence.
“Let me let the cat out of the bag. We are having a meeting with the LMC by Monday so that we can know how far they have gone and also see how we can come in to ensure this league starts.
“As club owners, we are not resting on our oars as everything that is happening affects us directly. We are the ones feeling the pinch and we are mindful of the challenges the LMC is facing,” he said.
It will be recalled that the Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare has announced that the league will kick off on October 20 after the LMC had earlier failed to see the season begin on September 22 as proposed.
According to Dare, a notification has been sent out to all the NPFL teams apprising them of the new date.
However, the chairman of Sunshine Stars of Akure Tajudeen Akinyemi said the minister shouldn’t be the one to announce the date for the commencement of the league.
“The sports minister announced it but it is not his job to announce the date. It is the LMC that should give date and send letters to that effect. I am a director in LMC, nobody has called me or told me anything,” he said.
