Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has declared free education for all physically challenged students studying in state-owned tertiary institutions.
This was disclosed yesterday in Akwanga by the Provost of the State College of Education, Akwanga, Dr. Rebecca Isaac Umaru, when she received a team from the office of the Directorate of Strategic Communication and Press Affairs of the Governor, who were on Disability Advocacy Tour to the institution.
“Education of disabled students in tertiary institutions owned by the state government have been declared free by Governor Sule, that is why I am asking you to tender receipts of any fees you (disabled) might have paid to enable management of the institution refund it in compliance with the governor’s directive,” Dr Isaac said.
She said the college had also declared that all excursion exercises embarked upon by the physically challenged students free to support government’s efforts.
She, however, appealed to the state government to assist the college with 11 permanent staff who would be taking care of the physically challenged students.
She assured the special students of the management’s commitment to providing them with enough accommodation, mobility and writing materials to ease the difficulties they were facing on campus.
Also speaking, the leader of the disability advocacy tour and Personal Assitant to Governor Sule on disabilities/social media, Hamza Mammam Awe, assured the students of the governor’s support.
