Tafawa Balewa’s widow buried in Bauchi
Thousands of sympathisers yesterday attended the funeral prayers of Jummai, the widow of late Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, in Bauchi.
The Chief Imam of Bauchi, Sheikh Ahmad Baban Inna led the funeral prayers held at the palace of Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu. Governor Bala Muhammed, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Sulaiman, Emirs of Bauchi, Katagum, Misau, Ninigi and Dass as well as senior government officials and politicians attended the prayer session.
Shortly after the funeral prayers, the remains of the deceased were buried at the Dungulbi cemetery in Bauchi.
Governor Bala Muhammed, on behalf of the government and people of Bauchi State commiserated with the family of the late Prime Minister and described her death as a great loss not only to her immediate family, but to the people of the state and Nigeria.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the governor, Mukhtar Gidado, said the governor prayed Allah to forgive her shortcomings, bless what she left behind, grant her Aljanna Firdausi and give her family, the people of Bauchi State and the entire nation the fortitude to bear the loss.
The governor used the medium to recall the contributions of the late Prime Minister to the Nigeria project.
Hajia Jummai died on Sunday, October 27 ,2019, in a Lagos hospital at the age of 85, after a protracted illness.
She left behind eight children and many grandchildren.
