After 3 days of trekking, woman delivers twins at IDPs camp
A woman from one of the 16 villages recently sacked by bandits in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has given birth to twins.
The woman, Hadiza Suleiman, from Dallatu, it was gathered went into labour after trekking for three days to arrive at the internally displaced camp located along the Kaduna- Zaria highway.
It was gathered that some of the villagers arrived LEA primary school, Birnin Yero on Sunday last week but Hadiza, according to her husband, Suleiman Bala, went into labour immediately they arrived the camp and was rushed to a traditional birth attendant where she gave birth.
“She started feeling pains before we arrived this camp but there was no way we could stop since we were afraid that the bandits may be after us,” he said.
Speaking to our correspondent, the woman said, “I thank God I delivered the twins; a boy and a girl safely, but I am still very weak. My husband doesn’t have money and we can’t return to our village in this condition,” she said.
The middle aged traditional birth attendant who identified herself as simply Ladi said when they brought her (Dije) in labour she couldn’t reject her.
“I helped her to deliver the twins but the truth is that she is still very weak and needs blood. The husband doesn’t have money; which is why they are still here with me,” she said.
The woman’s husband, Sulaiman, said despite their ordeal at the camp he is happy that she delivered safely and pleaded with the state government to provide security in their villages to enable them return home.
