The people of Use Ikot Amama in Ibiono Ibom local government area, Akwa Ibom State have cried out for government’s intervention on their road which had been abandoned.
The Village Head of the community, Chief Sampson Willie, appealed to Governor Udom Emmanuel to re-award the road project to ameliorate the suffering of his people.
Speaking yesterday in his palace, the royal father said the Use Ikot Amama road project started under the administration of former governor, Godswill Akpabio still has over 30 kilometres that is uncompleted.
He said the community was worried over the deplorable state of the road and had written several letters to the state government its condition.
He lamented that so far, no response has come from the government, adding that the poor state of the road has hampered economic activities of the people.
“We have made several attempts to draw government’s attention to the deplorable condition of the road but to no avail because we don’t have anybody in government to fight for us.
“The last time they attempted to construct the road was during the tenure of Governor Godswill Akpabio but the road was abandoned, leaving about 30 kilometers undone.’’
The monarch, who stated that his people were predominantly farmers, explained that the construction of the remaining portion of the road would boost economic activities in the area.
“In this community, we cannot even sell our farm produce such as okro, fish, cocoa, maize, palm oil and kernel that we produce in commercial quantity.’’
