Many NYSC members late for oath-taking in Nasarawa

- From Ibraheem Hamza Muhammad, Lafia

Some 2019 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 prospective corps members posted to Nasarawa State failed to arrive on time for their swearing in ceremony at the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Orientation camp in Keffi Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.

Their late arrival did not afford them the opportunity of attending the swearing in ceremony as they were still trying to get registered at the registration hall in the camp.

The hall, it was observed, was filled up leaving others sitting outside waiting to access it to be registered.

One of the corps members, who requested anonymity, said she arrived at the camp early on Thursday but was yet to register because others were already ahead of her.

In his address, Governor Abdullahi Sule of the state, represented by his deputy Dr Emmanuel Akabe Sule, said his administration recognised the significance of youths as agents of socio-economic development hence his resolve to pay utmost attention to issues about the youth and the NYSC.

“I will as much as possible ensure that my doors are open to the management of the NYSC in the state and support the activities of the NYSC and any corps member who initiates meaningful project for the benefit of our people,” he said.

He charged the newly sworn in corps members to contribute their quota to uplift the aims and aspirations of the founders of NYSC with a view to contributing to the unity and development of the nation.

The governor also challenged the corps members to uphold the spirit of loyalty, patriotism, discipline and hard work throughout the service year.

He urged them to respect the cultures of their host communities, and assured them of security throughout the service year.

“Our people are hospitable and peaceful. Feel at home and integrate freely with them,” he said.
