Man allegedly beats up motorcycli­st

- 6 teenagers docked over cultism

A 31-year-old porter, Dele Adejoh, who allegedly beat up a man and stole his motorcycle, was on Tuesday docked at an Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court.

The defendant, who resides at Agege, Lagos, is being tried for assault and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the porter committed the offences on Sept. 26 on Akinyele Street, Agege, Lagos State.

Ogu alleged that the defendant and the complainan­t, Mr Matthew Alih had fought over a lady in the past.

The prosecutor said that the defendant beat up the complainan­t when they met again.

According to Ogu, the defendant pushed Alih, causing him to fall.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr J.A. Adegun, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adegun adjourned the case until Dec. 31, for mention. (NAN)

Six teenagers were on Tuesday arraigned before a Yaba Magistrate Court, Lagos, over cultism.

The accused - Lukmon Kuwani, Basit Adeleke, Ganiu Lateef, Festus Micheal and Rasheed Adeniyi, all aged 19, and Olakunle Ademola, 18, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and membership of unlawful society.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Oriabure, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 8, at 11.00p.m. at Ayobo in Ipaja, Lagos State.

Oriabure said that the defendants belonged to an unlawful society known as Eiye confratern­ity.

He alleged that they were assembling with others at large for a monthly meeting scheduled to hold at midnight.

“The Anti cultism Unit received informatio­n concerning the meeting and laid ambush for them,” he said.

The defendants, pleaded not guilty.

The court admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Magistrate E.N. Ojuromi, said that the sureties must be blood relations of the defendants, gainfully employed and show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Ojuromi adjourned the case to December 18, for mention. (NAN) however,
