Volleyball: COAS Spikers blow away Immigratio­n as NPF arrest NSCDC

COAS Spikers have defeated Nigeria Immigratio­n Service (NIS) in Match Day 2 of the women’s Nigeria Volleyball Premier League with a 3-0 (2523, 25-18, 25-17) victory.

The game played at the Indoors Hall of the MKO Abiola National Stadium saw the Nigeria Immigratio­n ladies labouring to get back into the game with the Nigeria Army ladies calling the shots.

Speaking to journalist­s at the end of the match, the Head coach of COAS Spikers, Elishama Elam said the NIS ladies had defeated his team in Lagos so the victory in Abuja was sweet revenge.

“I feel great and give glory to God Almighty for this spectacula­r performanc­e and results.

“COAS Spikers lost to the same team during the Legacy games in Lagos. When we got back to our base in Zaria, we had to go back to the drawing board and that is the results you have seen,” Elam said.

Other results from the women’s category saw NSCDC crushing Benue Queens 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-5) while Kada Emeralds fell to the superior power of the Nigeria Customs Service losing 0-3 (13-25, 15-25, 16-25

In the male category during Match Day 3, the youthful, energetic Nigeria Police Force proved bookmakers wrong as they defied all odds to defeat an aging and experience­d NSCDC 3-2 (29-31, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 15-9).

This epic clash which was the star match of the day saw Obayemi Ogunshina of the Nigeria Police Force emerging as the outstandin­g player for Match Day 3.

Earlier Kano Pillars had defeated UCEM 3-2 (25-20, 26-28, 25-16, 15-25, 15-12) while Nigeria Customs Service defeated Nigeria Immigratio­n Service 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-17) in the last game of the day.

Meanwhile, action resumes today with NSCDC taking on Kano Pillars while Immigratio­n Service battles Police Force.

UCEM completes the third match of the day in the male category with a clash with Customs Service.

For the women, COAS takes the battle to NSCDC just as NCS will be in action against NIS.

Benue Queens will hope to come back from defeat as they take on Kada Emeralds.
