Ibadan-Kano rail must be delivered before 2023 – FG

Minister of Transporta­tion, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi has hinted that the Federal Government would push for the completion of the IbadanKano rail before the present administra­tion winds down in 2023.

He said this is to ensure that the next President does not take the glory for the project even though what matters is to deliver an efficient means of transporta­tion to Nigerians.

Amaechi also insisted on the commission­ing of the Lagos-Ibadan section of the standard gauge by April 2020, saying the contractor had promised to speed up work by January to meet up with the deadline.

the monthly inspection of the project from Lagos to Ibadan and commended China Civil Engineerin­g and Constructi­on Corporatio­n (CCECC) for fast tracking the track constructi­on.

The Minister, who inspected the stations alongside Chairman of the Nigeria Railway Corporatio­n (NRC), Mallam Ibrahim AlHassan, and the Managing

Director, Engr. Fidet Okhiria, directed the contractor to complete all the minor stations by February 2020 and the major stations by April the same year.

At Omi Adio station in Ogun state, the Minister decried the quality of work, and urged the contractor not to compromise on quality.

At Kajola station also in Ogun, the Minister disclosed that the contractor has commenced trial run of local content by using locally sourced tiles, windows, doors that are of good quality.

Ahead of the commenceme­nt of work on the Ibadan-Kano project in January, Amaechi however said the government would not accept the kind of speed on Lagos-Ibadan project to be repeated.
