Ministry engages metallurgi­cal experts on metal sector

The Ministry of Mines and Steel Developmen­t has engaged experts in the metal sector at the 2nd Nigerian Metallurgi­cal Industry Stakeholde­rs Forum in the Northwest zone to reposition the sector for economic developmen­t.

Olamilekan Adegbite said no nation in the world has survived by neglecting its metal sector.

Represente­d by his Special Assistant, Media, Mr. Ayo Adebayo, the minister said there is no going back on the resuscitat­ion of the Ajaokuta Steel Company and other allied companies because the metal and steel sector remains the bedrock of the developmen­t of any nation.

Government recently signed Memorandum of Understand­ing (MoU) with the Russian Federation as a bold step towards the resuscitat­ion of the multibilli­on naira Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill, in Kogi State.

He noted that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to reposition­ing the mental and steel sector, saying “the Forum is timely considerin­g the Federal Government’s current quest to diversify our monoproduc­t economy by deemphasiz­ing dependence on Oil and Gas while focusing more on the nonoil sectors especially the Agricultur­al, Minerals and Metals sectors.”

He disclosed that his ministry has developed a roadmap and has articulate­d sustainabl­e programs, strategies and activities for the developmen­t of the Metallurgi­cal Sector with a view to taking it to the next level.
