Sarkin Pawa - Kaduna road, an urgent need for completion

-

It is an undisputable fact that road network in every society plays a vital role for socio-economic activities and development. Road importance cannot be overemphasized, hence, every government would ensure that it places their construction or maintenance on the top of their priorities in budgetary allocation. Sarkin Pawa, the headquarters of Munya LGA of Niger State, which shares boundary with Kaduna State cannot boast of a good and secured road that would link it with Kaduna. The road that would have linked it with Kaduna only stopped at Tawali in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State. It is expected that by now, the Kaduna State government would have completed the remaining project to link up at either Dutse or Gonin Gora flyover. The other route is that of Sarkin Pawa to Polwaya on the Abuja expressway which has been denied access by robbers and kidnappers. On the average timing, it won’t take a driver more than one and half hours to get to Kaduna from Sarkin Pawa, but with the present condition, one spends not less than three hours on this road, not to talk of the risk involved. Traders from Kano, Zaria, Kaduna and other northern states choose to take this route because it is shorter to Minna and beyond. With these two roads abandoned, residents of Sarkin Pawa have been left with no choice than to make what I call the Israelites’ journey, whenever they wish to go to Kaduna or returning from any northern part of the country. This I feel is not the best for our people in this democratic dispensation. If any of the two roads is given attention by the government, it would definitely woo a large number of investors and businesses to Sarkin Pawa, hence raising the revenue of the local government and Niger State at large. Sarkin Pawa has the potential to be economically viable because it stands as a gateway to the northern and southern states. All it needs is good road network.
