Potiskum buries 4 Emir’s aides killed by gunmen

The remains of four aides in the Emir of Potiskum’s convoy killed by gunmen on Wednesday on the Kaduna-Zaria highway were yesterday laid to rest in Potiskum.

The burial attended by huge the crowd took place shortly after a prayer for the deceased was offered at the palace of the Emir in Potiskum, Yobe State.

Alhaji Hamza Maidede, who witnessed the burial, said two Emirs of Tikau and Damagum, and representa­tives of some traditiona­l rulers also attended the burial.

Our correspond­ent gathered that the Emir of Potiskum Alhaji Umaru Mai Bubaram was recuperati­ng in Kaduna and could not attend the burial.

Meanwhile, the Yobe State governor Mai Mala Buni has expressed sadness over the death of the four aides of the Emir.

In a statement signed by the Commission­er for Informatio­n, Abdullahi Bego, the governor said his thoughts and prayers were with the emir, the families of the deceased and those who sustained injuries as a result of the attack.

The governor prayed to the Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant eternal repose to the souls of the departed and give their families the fortitude to bear the loss.

The governor also called on security agencies to step up effort to tackle banditry, robbery and other criminal activities in the country.

Also the Chairman Council of Chiefs Yobe State and Emir of Fika, Alhaji (Dr) Muhammadu Ibn Abali Muhammad Idrissa extended his condolence to the Potiskum Emirate over the sad loss.

The Emir, who spoke Thursday through his media aide, Mohammed Abubakar condemned the attack on the convoy, saying “We are deeply saddened by the news of the gun attack on the convoy of His Royal Highness Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya and pray for Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives, and speedy recovery to the injured.”
