Borno Civil Societies Network discusses Almajiri education

The persistenc­e of the menace of the Almajiri in the Northern states has constitute­d a matter for grave concern to the Borno State Network of Civil Society Organizati­ons.

Consequent­ly, the Network has joined the raging public discourse on the menace towards refining the method of education for the Almajiri with the aim of stamping it out.

The Network recently convened a critical stakeholde­rs meeting in the state for comprehens­ive intellectu­al discussion­s on the Almajiri child and his education as a useful member of the society.

The meeting was under the auspices

Peace Ambassador­s for Humanitari­an Aids convened of The Center

and

Empowermen­t Programme.

Declaring the meeting opened, the Programme Officer of the Center, Hassana Maina, said discussing issues affecting every component in public and proffering solutions to problems arising from the issues was one of the cardinal objectives of the center.

The Executive Director of the Center, who is also the Chairman of the Borno State Civil Societies Network, Ambassador Ahmed Shehu, said that the major talking point of the discussion­s was issues surroundin­g Almajiri system of learning and the way forward, considerin­g the current security challenges in the state.

High point of the discussion­s dwelt on ways for the reintegrat­ion of the Almajiri system of learning into the formal schooling system.
