Group wants Child Rights Act implemented in Adamawa
A non-governmental organization, Global Peace Development and Centre for Health and Development in Africa, (CHEDA) has called for the implementation of the Child Rights Act in Adamawa State.
Director CHEDA, Mr. Ebruke Esike, made the call recently during a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lami Patrick.
He explained that women and girls are the worst hit whenever there are crises jus as they are excluded from governance and peace building processes premised on inequality.
Therefore, CHEDA brought in an intervention tagged, “Women empowerment and institutional strengthening for Peace and Stability in Adamawa state in collaboration with the British Council Output 3.
He said the Output 3 is a “women peace building initiative” which contributes to safety community resilience, voice and visibility of women and girls that are integrated into community governance and peace building in line with the United Nations Security Council UNSCR 1325 and UNSCR 2250 principle with funding from British Council.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lami Patrick, said the name used, “Child’s Act Law” has been changed to Child’s Protection Right due to a directive from the National Assembly.
She said the name was changed because of the Nigerian Culture and promised to look into the implementation of the Act.
Lami lauded the efforts of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and his wife, Hajiya Lami Fintiri on the fight against gender based violence in the state.
