- From Magaji Isa Hunkuyi, Jalingo

Road transport workers union in Taraba state have decried lack of maintenance of federal roads linking the state with other parts of the country.

The Vice Chairman of the union in the state, Mallam Idiris Bawa said this in an interview with North East Trust in Jalingo.

He said the road from Jalingo to Numan and the one from Jalingo to Mayo-Belwa in Adamawa state were in total state of disrepair.

Mallam Idiris further stated that the road from Jalingo to Wukari, which links the state with the eastern part of the country and the Federal Capital Territory is also in a state of disrepair.

According to him the Mayo-Selbe-Gembu road and Bali-Takum road are also in bad condition which calls for urgent attention.

The vice chairman said a journey by road from Jalingo to Numan, which used to take one hour now takes between three to four hours as a result of the bad condition of the road.

He further said motorists who ply JalingoNuman road were being forced to take a bush path for many kilometers because of the bad condition of the main road.

Mallam Idiris Bawa alleged that work carried on two bridges along Jalingo-Wukari road was poorly executed and there are signs of cracks on the two bridges which require urgent attention.

According to him, Jalingo is a major gateway to states in the North East and therefore appealed to governors in the region to request the relevant federal authorities to repair the roads.

Mallam Idiris Bawa therefore urged president Buhari to compel the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to focus its attention on the federal roads in the state.
